…plan for the weekend: Girly-fest, including a slumber party! Lots of knitting, beer, fun food, laughter and silliness.

I swear I am really 31 years old.

I flew back from Missouri yesterday and I am still recovering from the various and sundry time changes I experienced in the past 24 hours. Missouri seriously freaked my shit for the entire time I was there. The conference was awesome, but it was just literally in the middle of freaking nowhere. I have never seen so much of so little!!!!!! Lots of open space and cattle and horse farms. It was pretty, but it seemed very isolated. Well, I can now check Missouri off the list of places I would live.

I have been knitting a lot lately. I am trying to get a hold on Christmas knitting, but it isn’t really working as well as I would like it to. There are not enough hours in the day. I need a two week, at home vacation!!!

So that is what is going on in my life, pretty exciting, no?

Abe and Dio do this whole thing every morning before I get up where they chase each other all over the apartment and wrestle and whine and growl and hiss. It is loud, obnoxious and drives me insane. It is particularly obnoxious because they do it at 5:00 in the morning and then I spend the next 90 minutes yelling at them and falling in and out of sleep. I never seem to get a full night because of this. I have resorted to childish tactics in order to exact my revenge. After I finish showering and getting dressed it seems to be kitty sleep time. They are both usually passed out on the couches or the bed. I walk over and poke them, waking them up. Now they know what it feels like to be woken up every ten minutes. Unfortunately, this isn’t wonderfully effective since they fall back to sleep immediately.

I’m off to Maryville, MO for a conference this weekend. I was good to myself and booked a flight that does not leave at the crack of dawn tomorrow, but rather late tomorrow morning. I can sleep in a little bit!

You ever hear something that doesn’t bother you at the time, but then a day or two later, after you process it, all of the sudden it totally lays you out?

Whew!!!!!! What a week! I spent all of last week at a conference, which while very informative, was exhausting. I then drove out to Dani’s on Friday night so that we could drive out to Asheville to attend SAFF. It was a lot of fun, but, I am shocked to admit that Dani and I only stayed and shopped for about 2 hours Saturday morning. SAFF is really small, which is great. It allowed us to shop and see everything, and then we could go someplace else and play. And we did just that. After shopping and bringing home a relatively small haul by Mary standards, we explored Asheville. My SAFF purchases:

SAFF Haul #1
DragonFly Fiber Designs’ merino lace

SAFF Haul #2
Persimmon Tree Farms’ pot luck yarn

SAFF Haul #3
Miss Babs’ superwash sport

Dani and I took a spinning class Sunday morning with Julie Wilson, who was an incredible teacher. So, drum roll please…..I give you my first skein of lumpy yarn that I spun:

MY OWN YARN!!!!!!!!

It looks craptastic, but who cares???? I SPUN IT MYSELF!!!!!! And then I plied it. I really got the hand of it at the end. Of course, the first thing I did when I arrived home was find the local spinning guild and immediately joined. I spin again next week and hopefully I will have a rented wheel that I can practice with until February and the Carolina Alpaca Celebration where I hope to buy a wheel.

Dani and I hit downtown Asheville and visited all the local yarn stores. We both fell in love with Purl’s Yarn Emporium. It was a fantastic store with a great selection and excellent prices. When in Asheville, go there. We also checked out Earth Guild, which was a pretty cool store with lots and lots of crafts supplies and tools.

After exploring Asheville, we headed back to the hotel to rest. I took a 20 minute power nap and then we headed out to the Moose Cafe for dinner. It was AWESOME!!!!! Located right next to the Farmer’s Market, you can taste how fresh the veggies are and the down home cooking was delicious. The portions are huge. I had the meatloaf it was heaven!

Following dinner, we got to exploring more of this part of our state. We headed down to historic downtown Hendersonville, which apparently closes at 5:00pm. Then we drove over the mountains and into the hills to Bat Cave, NC. We were intrigued, so we had to go. We topped the night off by me introducing Dani to the wonders of Ross and World Market. We just browsed and I made mental notes of things I needed to buy.

We had our spinning class Sunday morning. I can’t say enough good things about Julie. She is an amazing instructor and I suspect an incredible human being. Dani and I both really loved spinning and I think Julie just created two new addicts. The drive home was pretty uneventful. I was exhausted and missed the cats. Of course, I got sick. Some sort of stomach thing has invaded my body. I think it may be from exhaustion, but who knows.

I also owe my three readers pictures from the state fair. Here is a teaser, you can find the rest here:

In honor of Jenny

The food at the fair is insane. I mean, off the hook, insane.

Some people are assholes. Plain and simple.

Pictures from this past weekend’s state fair excursion will have to wait until I receive the new USB cord for my camera. Apparently Dio likes to chew on cords.

Mike’s here, we are heading out to the state fair this afternoon with a bunch of friends. There will be plenty of pictures of goats, pigs, various other animals, and fried foods. Check back tomorrow for the full scoop!

found out Wednesday night. Now I am getting my act together for Philadelphia in January. Work is really good.
